A sudden rise in imports of knit garments from China has ruffled domestic manufacturers who have clearly expressed their concerns.
Rising dissatisfaction expressed by the domestic clothing industry and trade association, has thus prompted Government of Argentina to plan punitive measure against China.
However, on April 12, 2007, alarmed Chinese embassy official met with Argentinean officials and sought details about the plan.
It is reliably learnt that no action has been taken so far, but being contemplated, and officials said that certain licensing measures to limit imports of knit garments may not at all be called discriminatory.
They pointed out that such measures would not be targeted only at Chinese textile imports.
