Garment industry is reaping good results of training and education given to designers in ready-to-wear sector.
According to Suleyman Orakcioglu, President, Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association (ITKIB), during Q1 2007, garment export to EU has been increased by 15 percent compared to the same period last year.
In his statement, Orakcioglu informed that the sector has proved its competitive power and increased garment export volume against all odds.
Due to the quota applied on China by EU, export to 15 European countries increased 12.6 percent. The export to other 12 new EU countries has shown a big rise of 96 percent.
According to Orakcioglu, exports to Germany, which has shown a lacklustre performance since 2004, increased now in 2007. Garment export to Germany, which decreased 4.8 percent in 2006, has gone up in Q1 2007 by 5.4 percent.
It has been announced that the garment export to Greece, Portugal, Spain, England, France and the Netherlands increased by 69.3, 55.7, 42.7, 11.4, 6.6 and 10 percent respectively in Q1 2007.
