Exports of socks reached US $752 million with an increase of 3.4 percent in 2006. The first three countries where the most socks exported are the UK, Germany, and France. However, industry experts expected a decrease of minimum 15 percent in 2006, Turkey's socks export increased 3.4 percent.
Turkey is the second biggest socks exporter in the world, after China and the third biggest producer after China and USA. Even though EU did not impose quota on China, Turkey socks export to EU countries increased. For instance, socks export increased to Italy 38 percent, Spain 16 percent and Sweden 20 percent.
As experts stated, Turkish socks exporters could not perform well in Ukraine, Russian Federation and Japan markets.
