Ready-to-wear sector witnesses slump in exports

Ready-to-wear sector of the country, which has been jewel of the commerce, has lost its lustre recently.

The sector, which was export champion till 2005, has sat back to third position in 2007.

According the sources from Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade (UFT) and Turkey Exporters Assembly (TIM), the ready-to-wear sector, which was on first place at Turkey's sectoral export table from 2000 to 2005, regressed to third place at the end of 2006, and vehicles and supply industry took the first place, followed by iron and metal sector.

As stated from UFT Research & Development Department, vehicles and supply industry saw exports of US $1.354 billion, iron and metal sector witnessed exports worth $1.130 billion and ready-to-wear sector has seen exports of $99.2 million in April 2007.
