Synthetic leather shoes export upbeat

A statistical report of Vietnam MOIT shows that in July 2007, the country's footwear industry witnessed strong growth in exports of synthetic leather–sports shoes, generating revenue of US $68.84 million. This has posted a rise of 127.2 percent from same period last year.

During the first seven months, the turnover climbed to around $400 million, soaring 92 percent over corresponding period 2006.

Of these, exports to EU grabbed the largest share. Vietnam shipped 24.2 million pairs, worth $212.48 million, a boost of 39.4 and 64.23 percent, respectively, in comparison with the first seven months of 2006.

Exports to other markets have seen a sharp growth in both volume and value, during this period. Poland, with a surge of about 438 and 392 percent, Belgium saw a mount of around 122 and 517 percent.

Shipments to US featched revenue of $120 million, up by 244 percent and that to China increased by 309.8 percent.

The MOIT statistics also revealed that in August, exports of synthetic leather shoes touched $69.6 million, representing year–on–year rise of 55 percent.
