The General Customs Department's recently released statistics show that import of yarns required for textile and apparel industry witnessed a drop of 3.3 percent in August compared to July this year. However, it is 66.4 percent higher than the same period of 2006.
In the first eight months of 2007, country's import turnover reached US $32.5 million, which demonstrated a rise of 35.4 percent from corresponding period last year.
Korea emerged as the top supplier during the period between January to August, accounting for 36.5 percent of total yarn imports turnover, worth $11.8 million, representing a year–on–year rise of 30.1 percent.
Other suppliers are Japan with shipments worth $8.3 million, showing a growth of 66.3 percent, China with $4.7 million, up 24 percent and Hong Kong at 4.1 million, a boost of 25 percent.
Till August end the country imported yarns from 44 countries across the world.
