Export of felt shirts warm up

According to official sources from General Department of Customs, in the first three quarters of 2007, Vietnamese textile and apparel industry exported 4.3 million felt shirts worth US $18.9 million, up by 20.1 and 30.9 percent respectively over the same period last year.

In September alone, shipments of 657,000 shirts were made worth $2.5 million, representing a growth of 33 and 27.7 percent compared to month-on-month. These figures show a surge of 71.3 and 80.6 percent in comparison with same period 2006.

Among all export markets, US accounted for 53 percent of the total exports, with a volume of 2.0 million felt shirts for $10 million, giving a boost of 62.3 and 83.2 percent year-on-year.

In contrast, shipments to EU market witnessed slumps of 9.6 and 4.5 percent against nine months 2006, totaled to 1.9 million shirts worth $7.6 million.
