Thailand's textile and garment exports turnover to Japan in the first month of 2009 saw a good growth of 7.4 perecnt y-o-y, which helped to a great extent, offset the downtrend to its key markets; US and EU.

During the period, textile products exported to this market declined 2 percent to $24.4 million but shipment of garments saw it zooming to touch $20.4 million, up by 21.4 percent, when compared with January 2008.

During the period, Thailand textile and garment industry also spent $18.3 million importing raw materials and products from Japan, down 24.7 perecnt, which includes $15.2 million of textile and $3.1 million of garment raw materials.

This growth has come about due to the agreements Japan has signed with the countries, which gives preferential access to a few of them and exports from the sector from Thailand to Japan are expected to leap in 2009.
