Exports of clothing from India slipped by 15.4 percent in the first quarter (April-June) of the current fiscal (2009-10) to touch US $2.41 billion.
In comparison, India had shipped apparels worth $2.85 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year (2008-09).
In the month of June alone, exports of garments fell by 10.15 percent to reach $870 million. This has come about due to fall in demand from overseas markets.
In the first quarter, exports of cotton garments fell by 14.13 percent, woolen clothing by 7 percent and silk apparels by an awesome 29.31 percent.
Shipments of clothing made from man-made fibres too slipped by 5.5 percent to touch $189 million in the period under review.
