The unprecedented and uncontrolled exports of cotton yarn is seriously affecting the operations of the value-added sectors like apparels and home textiles and if the situation continued it would lead to closure of a number of units, warned the Pakistan Apparel Forum (PAF).

According to Javed Bilwani, Chairman of PAF, if the current situation persists, it would lead to joblessness in thousands, which could also lead to serious law and order problems.

He said that their order commitments for deliveries in the peak season before Christmas has already been struck due to acute shortage of cotton yarn in the markets of Pakistan, which could also affect timely deliveries.

He appealed to the government to protect the interests of the value-added sectors by controlling exports of cotton yarn from the country.
