Clothing imports from China post growth

In 2009, US apparel imports from China increased 2.53 percent in amount and 10.71 percent in quantity. From amongst four types of clothing manufactured from different fibres, import value of two kinds increased while of the other two decreased.

Clothing produced from cotton and man-made fibres increased 13.44 and 1.92 percent, respectively, year on year. Wool clothing, silk and vegetable fibre clothing fell 22.44 percent and 38.27 percent, respectively, year on year.

In terms of import volume, Cotton clothing and man-made fibre garments rose by 9.27 and 18.74 percent, respectively. Wool clothing, silk and vegetable fibre apparel fell 12.61 and 38.02 percent, respectively, year on year.
