Value-added sector refutes claims of spinners

Quoting from statistics, the textile value-added sector has disputed the claims of the yarn spinning sector that 20 percent of the spinning plants have closed down.

According to Jawed Bilwani, of the Value-added Textile Forum, exports of yarn grew by 22 percent year-on-year, in the period July 2009 – May 2010.

Shipments of yarn touched 588.3 million tons in the period under consideration, so there is no reason for the spinners to complain, said, Bilwani.

He added by saying that, the irony lies in the fact that though yarn production fell by 20 percent year-on-year, exports rose by 22 percent in the same period.
