The Vietnamese clothing export sector will be within sniffing distance of the half-way mark of the export target of US 10.5 billion set for 2010, by the end of June 2010.

According to Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) clothing shipments in the period January to June are expected to touch US $4.65 billion.

This is an extraordinary growth of around 16 percent, when compared with the same period of the previous year and the sector seems well on its way to complete the annual targets.

Amongst traditional markets, exports to the US grew by 15 percent, followed by Japan with 10 percent, while those to the European Union recorded a marginal increase.

Exponential growth was witnessed in shipments to South Korea, wherein they rose by an astounding 140 percent year-on-year, to reach $150 million.
