Exports of clothing may cross annual target

On the back of a rebound in its overseas markets, exports from the Vietnamese clothing sector is projected to touch US 5.8 billion in the first seven months of 2010.

In July alone, exports of textiles and clothing to South Korea, have witnessed a jump of 80 percent year on year.

Shipments to the US and Japan rose by 23 percent each, to the ASEAN bloc 30 percent and to the European Union, it could manage a growth of only 1.5 percent.

The pace at which exports are surging, shipments from the textile and clothing sector are expected to cross the target of $10.5 billion set by the government for the current year.
