In the month of July this year, overall exports of Sri Lanka showed downward trend due to the fall in apparel shipment, which is considered as the biggest industrial export of the country.
In July, the country's overall exports garnered just 0.6 percent more revenue totaling to $656 million against July 2009 and were much lower than the revenue generated in June 2010.
Apparel exports in July 2010 dropped down by 11 percent to $268 million against the exports in the same month last year. However, imports in terms of value went up by 25.3 percent to $1,177 million this July against last July.
Due to lower exports of textiles and garments, ceramic items and diamonds and jewelry, the revenue through industrial exports slipped down slightly to $483 million.
