Garments top among all commodity exports

Exports from Vietnam led by garments and crude oil surged in the first four months of 2011. Shipments rose to US $26.94 billion, up 35.7 percent from the same period a year ago.

Exports of textiles and garment took the first ranking amounting to $3.93 billion, followed with crude oil at $2.46 billion.

In the same period, imports too increased to $31.83 billion, up 29.1 percent, pushing the trade deficit to nearly $4.9 billion, up 6 percent over the same period last year.

Imports of machines and equipment topped at $4.68 billion, followed by petroleum at $3.58 billion and textile fabric at $2.11 billion.
