There was a 45.87 per cent decrease in Qatar's apparel imports from Turkiye during the first seven months of 2023, compared to $47.754 million in the same period in 2022. The decline follows a fluctuating trend in imports; while shipments grew by 46.15 per cent to $67.676 million in January-July 2020, they dropped by 37.63 per cent to $42.209 million in 2021, before rising 13.14 per cent to $47.754 million in 2022, according to data from Fibre2Fashion's TexPro tool.
In 2022, Turkiye's apparel exports to Qatar totalled $86.642 million, accounting for 10.16 per cent of Qatar's overall apparel imports valued at $852.367 million. Turkiye maintained its position as the fourth-largest supplier to the country during this period.
The import increased by 19.03 per cent in 2022 compared to the shipment of $72.789 million in 2021. Qatar had imported apparel worth $73.287 million in 2019 and $101.860 million in 2020 from Turkiye.
Trade has seen a steep decline in recent months, falling to $2.151 million in July 2023 from $7.431 million in March 2023. The figures were $2.445 million in June, $3.048 million in May, and $3.834 million in April of the current year, according to TexPro.
T-shirts dominated apparel imports, accounting for 17.55 per cent of the share during the first seven months of the year. Among the top five products, trousers and shorts held a 15.09 per cent share, dresses 13.16 per cent, shirts 13.02 per cent, and suits 8.83 per cent of Qatar's total apparel imports.
