South Korea's apparel imports from Vietnam total $2.281 bn in Jan-Aug

South Korea imported apparel worth $2,281.364 million from Vietnam between January and August 2023. During this period, the country purchased 640.624 million garments at an average price of $3.56 per piece. South Korea also imported 1,877.32 kg of various types of garments, averaging $17.35 per kg. In contrast, last year's imports were valued at $3,733.287 million. 

South Korea imported 936.923 million garments from Vietnam at an average price of $3.98 per piece in 2022. The country also imported 1,230.90 kg of garments at an average price of $14.82 per kg in 2022. The data for January-August 2023 shows that the average price per garment decreased to $3.56, while the price per kg for various types of garments increased from $14.82 to $17.35, according to data obtained from Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro. 

Previously, the value of imports from Vietnam stood at $3,294.675 million in 2021, $3,065.385 million in 2020, and $3,572.825 million in 2019. The average price per garment was $3.17 in 2021, $3.24 in 2020, and $3.87 in 2019. Additionally, various types of garments were imported by South Korea at an average price of $19.05 per kg in 2021, $51.05 per kg in 2020, and $21.01 per kg in 2019, as per TexPro.

The data indicates that the price per kg for imported garments surged unusually to $51.05 in 2020, a year marked by the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. This global health crisis led to widespread lockdowns, disrupting normal life and trade.
