Turkey's apparel exports up 0.58% in Jan 2019

Apparel exports from Turkey increased by 0.58 per cent in the first month of 2019, according to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute. In January 2019, Turkey exported apparel worth $1.246 billion, compared to exports of $1.239 billion clocked during the first month of 2018, the data showed.

Category-wise, exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) earned $720.289 million during the first-month period, registering a decrease of 0.9 per cent over exports of $726.499 million during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Exports of non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at $525.655 million, up 2.6 per cent from $512.202 million exports made in the same period of 2018.

Meanwhile, exports of carpets, mats and tapestries (HS chapter 57) were up 7.9 per cent to $182.055 million during the period under review.

Last year, apparel exports from Turkey increased by 3.5 per cent to $15.323 billion over $14.787 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
