Turkish apparel exports up 11.5% in Jan-March '18

Apparel exports from Turkey increased by 11.54 per cent in the first three months of 2018, according to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute. From January to March 2018, Turkey exported apparel worth $3.948 billion, compared to exports of $3.539 billion clocked during the first quarter of the previous year, the data showed.

Category-wise, exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) earned $2.279 billion during the three-month period, registering an increase of 9.8 per cent over exports of $2.076 billion during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Exports of non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at $1.668 billion, up 14 per cent from $1.463 billion exports made in the same period of 2017.

Meanwhile, exports of carpets, mats and tapestries (HS chapter 57) were up 13 per cent to $553.935 million during the period under review.

During the quarter, Turkish imports of cotton, cotton yarn and cotton textiles (HS chapter 52), increased by six per cent year-on-year to $478.100 million. (RKS)
