Imports of textile fabric in November 2023 fell by 11.01 per cent to £477 million, compared with £536 million in November 2022. It was also a month-on-month decrease from October 2023’s £504 million. Meanwhile, the UK’s fibre imports in November 2023 were £31 million, a decrease from both November 2022’s £48 million, and from October 2023’s £37 million.
The UK’s clothing imports totalled £4.164 billion during the third quarter of 2023 (July-September). Imports of fabric were noted at £1.365 billion, and textile fibres at £97 million during this period.
In 2022, the country’s total clothing imports were £21.255 billion ($27.06 billion), a 23.50 per cent increase compared to £17.034 billion in 2021. The imports of textile fabric and textile fibres for 2022 were £6.357 billion and £545 million, respectively.
Regarding exports, the UK’s clothing sector generated £357 million in November 2023, down from £389 million in November 2022. The figure for October 2023 was £328 million. During the third quarter of 2023, clothing exports totalled £929 million. In 2022, clothing exports decreased to £3.931 billion from the previous year’s £4.263 billion. Exports of textile fabrics and fibres in 2022 were £2.716 billion and £616 million, respectively.
