Men's garment exports were valued at $148.239 million during the first four months of this year, making up 32.92 per cent of the total exports. On the other hand, women's garment share was lesser at 29.26 per cent, with a value of $131.718 million during the period. Baby wear’s value was $6.674 million, constituting 1.48 per cent of the total trade, according to insights based on trade data from Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
A product-wise analysis of the trade reveals that trousers and shorts were at the top of the list of exported garments. The exports of trousers and shorts were recorded at $158.053 million in the first four months of this year, accounting for 35.10 per cent of the total.
The export value of other major garments among the top five were T-shirt ($102.827 million, 22.84 per cent), shirt ($66.118 million, 14.69 per cent), jersey ($52.030 million, 11.56 per cent), and dresses ($16.020 million, 3.56 per cent).
According to TexPro, Bangladesh exported cotton garments worth $300.009 million during the period under review, which constituted 66.63 per cent of the total exports. An analysis of apparel exports by material type showed that the shipment of garments made of man-made fibre was $106.662 million (23.69 per cent), while other types of garments were valued at $43.561 million (9.69 per cent).
