Shipments to Canada decreased by 2.69 per cent to $1.505 billion in the first nine months of 2023, down from $1.547 billion in the corresponding period of 2022. The exports were valued at $1.428 billion during January-September 2019. They plummeted by 27.19 per cent to $1.040 billion in the same period of 2020. However, shipments recovered by 16.55 per cent to $1.212 billion in January-September 2021 and further increased by 27.61 per cent to $1.547 billion in January-September 2022, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
During January-September 2023, US apparel exports to Mexico were recorded at $1.317 billion, accounting for 29.37 per cent of the total. Mexico was the second-largest market for the trade. Shipments to China were valued at $160.194 million (3.57 per cent), Nicaragua at $133.616 million (2.98 per cent), and Japan at $108.151 million (2.41 per cent). Italy, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, and South Korea were the next major markets.
In 2022, US apparel exports to Canada stood at $2.108 billion, constituting 35.15 per cent of the total exports of $5.998 billion. Thus, it was the largest market for the shipments. Exports to Mexico were valued at $1.621 billion (27.03 per cent), to Nicaragua at $300.239 million (5.01 per cent), to Japan at $158.692 million (2.65 per cent), and to China at $143.901 million (2.40 per cent), as per TexPro.
