Vietnam 4th largest apparel supplier for Singapore with 7% share

Vietnam was the fourth-largest supplier of apparel to Singapore, accounting for 7.07 per cent of the city-state's total imports from January to April 2023. Singapore's overall apparel imports for the period amounted to $700.884 million, with Vietnam's contribution valued at $49.577 million. The three largest contributors were China, Italy, and Indonesia, combining to account for over 54 per cent of total apparel imports to Singapore. 

An analysis of Singapore's imports from Vietnam shows a decrease of 5.77 per cent from the same period in 2022, when imports totalled $54.610 million. Trade was at $48.749 million in January-April 2021, $47.670 million in January-April 2020, and $43.821 million in January-April 2019, according to Fibre2Fashion's market analysis tool TexPro. 

In 2022, Singapore's total apparel imports were valued at $2.328 billion, with Vietnam's share at $196.371 million, or 8.43 per cent of the total. This represented a significant jump of 29.51 per cent from $151.620 million in 2021. However, trade decreased by 12.27 per cent to $138.346 million in 2020, down from $157.690 million in 2019. Nevertheless, trade rebounded and grew 9.6 per cent to $151.620 million in 2021, as per TexPro.
