Both nations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on trade, investment, and industrial cooperation during the first meeting of the Joint Economic Committee last month. As far as textile trade is concerned, Vietnam primarily exports apparel to Colombia. However, Colombia's share in Vietnam's total apparel exports is quite minimal, at just 0.10 per cent during the first seven months of this year. Vietnam's total apparel exports amounted to $18.209 billion during this period, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro. Despite the limited share in Vietnam's exports, Vietnam has contributed significantly to Colombia's total apparel imports, accounting for 5.82 per cent of the $306.780 million worth of imports during the same period. Vietnam ranks as the fourth-largest apparel supplier to Colombia, following China, Bangladesh, and Turkiye.
In 2022, Vietnam exported apparel worth $40.037 million to Colombia. This marked an increase compared to the previous years, with exports valued at $29.201 million in 2021, $22.309 million in 2020, and $36.216 million in 2019, as reported by TexPro. Vietnam also exports fabric and yarn to Colombia, albeit in limited quantities.
