Vietnam exported footwear and leather products amounting to $14 billion between January and July 2022, recording an annual increase of 13 per cent, according to Vietnam Leather Footwear and Handbag Industry. Exports revenue from North America grew by 24 per cent and that from European Union (EU) grew by 17.5 per cent in the first 7 months of 2022.

Exports value increased by 18.2 per cent for Vietnam-EU FTA member markets and by 10.5 per cent for CPTPP member markets during the same period.

The remaining months of the year will have opportunities as well as challenges for Vietnam, said the country’s media reports quoting Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, vice chairwoman of the Vietnam Leather Footwear and Handbag Industry. She added that important export markets such as the US and EU are experiencing a reduction in consumption, thus impacting purchasing power.

Vietnam’s leather and footwear exports went up by 4.6 per cent from 2020 to reach $20.78 billion in 2021.
