The notification issued by the Textiles and Jute Ministry says, “Under section 4 and 13 of the Jute Ordinance 1962, the export of raw jute will remain suspended until further notice for proper implementation of the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act-2009.”

The ministry is currently conducting a campaign to ensure that jute bags are used in packaging of various goods. The ban is expected to increase supply of the fibre for domestic jute bag and sack-makers.
