Bangladesh will form a Jute Council to develop the jute sector and the associated industries, textiles and jute minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak recently told the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA).

Nanak said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed his ministry to develop the jute industries as she wants the sector to earn more foreign currency.

He urged the BJMA to help stop the use of polythene bags.

BJMA leaders discussed various problems of jute mills at the meeting.
