Some jobs have been generated with the starting of jute production and export of jute products from leased out mills, he said.
The government has already leased out three jute mills—Bangladesh Jute Mill, Narsingdi; KFD Jute Mill, Chittagong; and National Jute Mill, Sirajganj. The process to lease out three more jute mills is under way, the minister was quoted as saying by Bangladeshi media reports.
The government announced on July 1, 2020, its decision to close 25 state-owned jute mills under BJMC. It has paid Tk 3,563 crore as dues of the permanent workers of these mills till now.
