Jute dealers should not confine their business to jute and jute-based products since geo-textiles made from the wonder fibre are gaining grounds.
With its widespread utilizations in infrastructural development like construction of roads, railways, steep sloped embankments, drainage and prevention of soil erosion initiatives, jute geo-textiles have the capacity to capture markets of not only single country or continent but of the world.
Secretary of the Jute Manufactures Development Council Arun Bal said though markets are ruled by synthetic geo-textiles, the future belongs to the natural, eco-friendly material which amounts to a small proportion of geo-textile use in the world.
Obtained in woven and non-woven form, in thick and heavy open mesh structure, jute geo-textile has many uses like the promotion of quick vegetation in areas eroded by natural calamities.
In India, jute geo-textile has much potential of Rs600 crore in Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), said Bal.
