Brahmanbaria district is witnessing severe crisis of jute seeds and fears serious fall in jute production.

As per Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), plan was to cultivate jute in 25,810 hectares of land in the district's eight upazilas, with an output target of 0.24 million (2.40 lakh) bales.

Farmers are doubtful about the jute production target due to shortage of seeds.

Prices of seeds have also gone up, per kg seed is being sold from Tk300 to Tk350, which is beyond the farmers' purchasing capacity.

DAE also informed that farmers' have inadequate jute-seed stock, stored during last season.
