Almost all jute mills were closed in West Bengal as workers went on strike asking for outstanding dearness allowances, gratuity and provident fund etc.
Out of 62 jute mills, 50 witnessed strike, National Union Jute Workers Secretary General Ganesh Sarkar stated.
Workers demonstrated outside mill gates in peaceful manner, according to Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) affiliated Bengal Chatkol Mazdoor Union Secretary Gobinda Guha.
Due to this strike, state will lose average daily production of 5,000 tons jute products.
