Having received assurance from the Government to consider their eight-point demands, the jute and textiles workers have withdrawn their blockade programme.
The workers informed the media that they were withdrawing their agitation after Government's assurance to consider their eight point demand that includes payment of their dues, but they would carry on with work abstention programme.
Under the banner of Jute and Textile Mills Workers' Action Council, workers belonging to eight state-owned jute mills of the district took to the streets.
Government has sanctioned Tk40 crore for the payment of arrears of the workers, informed the Chairman of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC).
The closure of eight jute mills has led to the loss of Tk6 crore just within a week.
