Centre provides Rs260 crore for Jute Technology Mission

Union Cabinet has given its nod to proposal by the Textile Ministry to set up a Jute Technology Mission with the budget of Rs260 crore, informed Jute Commissioner, S Majumdar.
He further elaborated that out of Rs260 crore, Rs100 crore will be provided as capital subsidy to organized mills, Rs60 crore core had been set aside for jute park while the remaining Rs100 crore would be used for various training programmes.
The mission formed for the resurrection of jute industry via use of technology upgrade will be launched from next month. West Bengal in conformity with Centre was planning to set up jute parks in Murshidabad and Coochbehar districts.
Manabendra Mukherjee, Minister for Cotton and Small-Scale Industries of West Bengal emphasized the importance of jute diversified products saying that it had major role to play in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector in the State.
