Indefinite strike by jute mill workers
05 Jan '07
1 min read
For the clearance of past dues of gratuity, ESI, bonus and dearness allowance, jute mill workers of 20 unions went on an indefinite strike form today.
Even after intervention from Labour Minister, the differences between management and trade union could not be resolved.
New Central Jute Mill, run by workers themselves, remained open and about four trade unions refused to join the strike.
In West Bengal, there are 55 mills with 2.5 lakh workers employed by the industry.
