Raw jute worth Tk8 crore, which was stored in six adjoining godowns at Daulatpur, was destroyed in fire on January 4, 2007. But nearby people opined that maximum loss of Tk3 crore has been incurred.
Blaze started in the godown of Eastern Jute Traders, then it spread to other adjacent warehouses belonging to Golden Jute Supply, Uttara Jute Corporation and Reza Jute Traders, sources informed.
Fire broke out at 11:00 am. Eleven fire tenders and Navy units doused it after four hours of struggle. Inquiry is under way to determine the cause of this fire.
