Farmers of Boalmari Upazila, Faridpur district in Bangladesh are in distress this season due to pest attack on their jute saplings.

A new variety of pest is attacking jute plant, which is damaging the upper portion of plantlet hampering its normal growth.

Farmers of this region cultivated jute exceeding their target. An agriculture officer from Boalmari said that 10,936 acres land was ploughed this season.

This year production cost of jute went up due to water crisis and high price of seeds leading to more suffering of the farmers.
