Two blocked Khulna jute mills begin sack production
28 May '07
1 min read
Two of the four blocked Khulna jute factories, Crescent Jute Mills and Star Jute Mills, have begun production in the sacking section.
Another laid-off unit, Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills, is also expected to commence partial operation of its sacking section around June 4.
Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) recently set aside Tk1.5 crore for purchase of raw jute for three mills.
However, sources say that since Peoples Jute Mills is laden with debt it would be extremely difficult to restart it.
BJMC ordered closure of the four mills, effective from April 19, following protest by employees for payment of arrear salaries.
