Mesta variety jute farming is widely accepted by the farmers of Madaripur district as it is easy grow, involves lower production cost and fetches good price.
Farmers inform that they have decided to grow Mesta in a big way next season, as nearly 5,000 farmers have profited from its cultivation.
Sources from the Department of Agriculture Extension informed that around 5,967 hectares of land were covered under Mesta jute in four major regions of the district this season.
Of the total 3,140 hectares cultivated in Sadar, 2010 hectares belonged to Kalkini, 670 hectares to Shibchar and 147 hectares to Rajoir Upazila.
