The jute industry of Andhra Pradesh has great potential for development and the state stands only second in its production after West Bengal. Swarnadhra Jute Mills (SJM), known for its diversified jute products like jute finer, twine, and scarves, is considered to be one of the important enterprises of the region.
In the present year, SJM has realized a turnover of Rs8 crore and anticipates to cross Rs10 crore by the end of this financial year. The company plans to invest 20 crores in its Pydibhimavaram industrial estate facility located in Srikakulam district which started operations since last December to boost its production capacity of jute twine by 20 tons each day.
In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, Mr BV Rama Rao, Managing Director, SJM, said, “If we can increase our output by 30 tons from present 10, then we plan to sell 70 percent of it in the international market. We also aim for a 100 percent growth in sales turnover post expansion.”
While divulging about the future policies, the Managing Director said, “In the near future we also plan to set up another jute producing unit at Isipatana in Visakhapatnam with an investment of Rs100 crores. For this purpose, local Government will provide us land.”
SJM sells its products in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa and Maharashtra and after this expansion will be able to meet both domestic and international demands.
