AP encourages jute industry

The State of Andhra Pradesh is all out to promote jute industry. According to Lakshmi Parthasarathy, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Andhra Pradesh, indicated Government's intent to allot land for setting up an exclusive industrial park for jute and jute-related industries in the state.

She stated this at a workshop jointly organized by the state government, Jute Manufacturers Development Council and the National Centre for Jute Diversification on the prospects of jute and allied industries in Andhra Pradesh.

She also informed that the jute industry sought concessions on par with food processing industry, which the state government was considering to take up with the Government of India at the earliest.

After West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh is the second largest jute products manufacturer having 27 major jute industries stated Arun Bal, secretary, Jute Manufacturers Development Council (JMDC) and executive director, National Centre for Jute Diversification.

Besides good infrastructure facilities, cheap labour and investor- friendly industrial policy, industrialist from West Bengal plan to shift operations to Andhra Pradesh, he added.
