“In the first three months, far-reaching lockdown measures were again in place in nearly all European countries, which largely affected the stationary fashion retail trade,” Dr Stella Ahlers, CEO at Ahler’s, said in a press release.

“Against this background, the business performance in the first quarter of 2020/21 was in line with our expectations. Currently we are focusing on the implementation of our comprehensive performance programme “New Tomorrow”. This way, we want to make the company future-proof,” Ahlers said.

Ahler’s gross profit for Q1 FY21 dropped to €10.6 million (€26.3 million), whereas EBITA registered a loss of €5.8 million (earnings: €3.9 million). The company’s e-commerce sales grew 20 per cent during the reported period.

Sales of group’s premium brands were down 57.1 per cent to €16.5 million (€38.5 million), while jeans and workwear segment sales plunged 53.5 per cent to €5.9 million (€12.7 million).

Regionally, Germany’s sales slipped to €9.7 million (€27.8 million) and Western Europe’s sales decreased to €8.4 million (€14.1 million). Central /Eastern Europe/ Other sales were down to €4.2 million (€9.2 million).

“The professional expansion of the e-commerce business and innovative brand communication are essential elements of the strategy. We are therefore confident that we will be able to fully restore our competitiveness and profitability in the medium term,” Ahlers said in the release.
