London tops again as global fashion capital

London has been crowned again as the Top Global Fashion Capital by the Texas-based company ‘Global Language Monitor (GLM)’.

London has beaten New York for the second consecutive year to remain number one in the list of top 50 fashion capitals of the world.

Before London became the international fashion capital, New York had retrieved the number one position from Milan, and prior to that, the American city retained the top rank for five years at a stretch beating the French capital Paris.

GLM, a firm that collectively documents, analyzes and tracks trends worldwide, said London was able to retain the top position for two reasons – first, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s emerging as the top fashion icon and second is the completion of the exceptionally successful Summer Olympics.

The ranking is assessed through GLM’s unique Narrative Tracking technology, which evaluates the results of Internet, blogosphere and the best 250,000 print, electronic and social media sources.

In addition to London and New York, Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Sao Paulo, Milano, Los Angeles and Berlin made it to the top ten in the list.

In comparison, Indian fashion capitals like Mumbai and Delhi were placed at number 38 and 48, respectively, in the GLM’s list.
