In May 2006, footwear exports turnover to the EU market posted a year–on–year rise of 33.32 percent worth US $174.71 million with cumulative revenue climbing up to $769.09 million, an official source from Vietnamese Ministry of Trade revealed.

The figures show a surge of 26.66 percent over same period in 2005.

Implementation of EU anti-dumping lawsuit on leather–capped shoes imported from China and Vietnam, exports turnover from these products witnessed a sharp decline since early April this year.

However, demand for knitting–capped, plastic shoes and sports shoes has been on a rise, stabilizing the exports revenue of Vietnam.

Major consumers during January–May 2006 period included England, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain and Austria where exports remained in line with that recorded in 2005.

Nevertheless, exports to Czech Republic in May represented a decrease of 43.1 percent, yet surged at 67.75 percent in January–May this year compared with same period last year.
