We are thrilled that Carpenter Co has had such a positive impact on this wonderful community."

The Project began on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, when residents of Pillow completed the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and took their Zzzz Score to learn their personal sleep profiles.

The Zzzz Score test recommended the type of pillow each participant in the Sleep Better Project should use during The Project.

"The Project generated a lot of excitement in Pillow and in surrounding communities," said Todd Laudenslager, mayor of Pillow.

"This is very much a bedroom community we have a lot of residents who have long commutes and are very early risers. The Sleep Better Project has showed us that making a small change, like replacing our pillows, can have a very big impact in our daily lives."

Participants were asked to sleep on their new pillows for the following week, keeping a daily journal to record their impressions about the new pillows and the quality of their sleep those nights.

At the end of The Project, participants were asked to test their Epworth Sleepiness Scale again to determine if they were less sleepy during the day when sleeping on the new pillow at night and to complete a Personal Experience Questionnaire.

Dr. Michael J, Breus, board certified sleep specialist and author of Good Night: The Sleep Doctor's 4-Week Program to Better Sleep and Better Health, says Carpenter Co.'s Sleep Better Project is a great example for others to follow.

"Replacing your bed pillow with one that is specially suited for you as an individual is one of the best and easiest things you can do to ensure a quality night's sleep."

"We were amazed at how many people in Pillow suffered from neck and back pain. After taking their Zzzz Score test and outfitting them with a pillow that improves spinal neck alignment, participants returned at the end of The Project with significantly reduced back pain," said Dr. Breus.

"There are some very simple and useful lessons learned from the example set during The Great American Sleep Better Project in Pillow, PA."
