Leather footwear makers must find alternate ways of survival instead of losing their business to European Union markets, stated Bui Xuan Khu, Deputy Minister of Industry.
Xuan Khu said leather footwear manufacturers should undertake all phases of shoe production instead of just being subcontractors for global companies. This will enable them to know exact production costs, to be used as evidence against anti-dumping cases.
He added that manufacturers should purchase production licenses from renowned global companies and utilize more local materials and accessories to decrease costs for long term development.
Xuan Khu further said import of Vietnamese leather capped shoes was shaken by EU's ten percent tariff. He cautioned that two year imposition of anti-dumping duties will bring trouble for leather footwear makers.
