Gandhiji's soul must be delighted to know that khadi gains its popularity in India as NIIFT Mohali's Fashion Design and Clothing Technology department adds design inputs.

Poonam Thakur and her colleague Prabhdip Brar from NIIFT undertook a project for Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to refashion khadi.

The outcome of this project are two impressive collections, which would overturn the myth that khadi cannot be chic and trendy.

'The Orient Express' from Brar comprises kurtis and salwar-kameez for women in silk and cotton available at Khadi stores, while Thakur introduced 'Gods of Tradition' with blockprints to highlight khadi in her collection.
