Licensing brand name, a latest fashion trend

Designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani that seemed to be stars in the sky, today, have become a household name.

Well, the modern trend is 'Licensing the brand name' to products that are anything from handbags to cologne and from wine to chocolates.

Not Restricted to clothing and accessories, licensing provides an opportunity for designers to diversify into other sectors.

The designer needs to have negligible knowledge about the product he is lisencing and if necessary he can always employ experts.

Recently, Carmen Marc Valvo proclaimed a licensing deal with Global Strategic Inc. for a line of eyewear.

Valvo explained at a press meet, “Deal will be beneficial as it will bring the brand to new retailers where my eveningwear might not be available to a broader customer. There are always risks, but we have to be careful to partner with quality manufacturers who can maintain the standards our customers have come to expect from us.”

This also allows designers to explore new avenues and learn latest fads and experiment by incorporating their talents to completely different industries.
