Gone are the days when the city of brotherly love was considered to be straight and sophisticated! Philadelphia, once known to be among the 'no-nonsense' cities of America, has emerged as a major hub for fashion giants!

It was just 5-7 years ago when local and nearby talents came up with modest boutiques, here. Philly then started attracting customers seeking unique and distinct fashion.

However, these stores were few and offered smaller choices and collections. Locals who sought to indulge in fashion shopping were compelled to go out of the city.

Recognizing the potential and demand bigger fashion players also decided to take advantage and began launching their outlets in the city.

In 2006 alone, H&M, Zara, Club Monaco and Lush entered Philadelphia. Barneys Co-op has also planned to explore this market.

The National Retail Federation estimates a 4.8 percent increase in retail sales this year, especially on the back of 'luxury items'.

Philadelphia has been hosting several major fashion events, shows and exhibitions, lately, with plans of many more in future.

Fashion designers like Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs have expressed keen interest, here.
