Govt assists domestic fashion get intl platform

Mr Mia Mottley, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs and Development firmly believes that Barbados fashion industry has the potential to match international standards and can add considerably in generating foreign exchange for the country.

Friday, November 23, saw a coming together of nine of the leading Barbados designers who showcased their latest fashion collections. The event was a Government supported initiative to bring forward the immense caliber and international potential of the local designers.

While attending to a large crowd at the Concorde Experience for Barbados Winter Sun Collection of 2007-08, Prime Minister Mottley disclosed the Government's decision to fund a portfolio of some of the best local designers.

Following this, the Barbados Fashion Portfolio displayed collection by designers like Antonio Cumberbatch, Cindy Mayers, Rosca McDonald, Pat Brathwaite, Catherine Balgobin, Pauline Belllamy, Simon, Roland Bascombe, and Mark and Ava Daniel.

Moreover, experts from international fashion world were given special invitation to examine the Barbados fashion portfolio. These eminent personalities included Bobby Hilson-Cunningham, Audrey Smaltz, Sharon Ridoynauth, Lisa Williams & Sharon Beatty and Les Francis.
